John Cherry, the director of 95% things Ernest P. Worrell died on May 8th, 2022. As some of you folks know, my friend Dakota and I did a Ernest fanzine that actually had approval from John Cherry and Coke Sams (another Ernest collaborator). When we did our definitive edition of the zine, I added a three page comic about the time I got a call from John Cherry.
AND DAKOTA AND I NEVER TOOK HIM UP ON HIS OFFER!!!!
Cherry was def a solid independent filmmaker. All the original Ernest commercials (the best Ernest content in my opinion) was done totally with almost no budget. And they were advertising really popular products. How John Cherry and Jim Varney did so much with one goofy character should be more celebrated than it is. Watch some Ernest commercials and pour out a cold refreshing Mellow Yellow for our boy.
